Cycling has been part of Launceston’s culture since the mid 1800’s. A Launceston resident was seen rolling down St John’s St on his newly acquired velocipede in 1869 much to the entertainment of the locals. For those of you who don’t know velocipedes were one of the earliest bike inventions. Aptly named the ‘bone rattler’ due to the wheels made out of steel.
